I have to admit that i did skipped the pre-order of this product (since i have sold all of my FP warbot series), until the sample copy was displayed during our local toy fair. Dai-Z was definetely bigger than what i was expecting it to be and the design and aesthetic won me over as well.
I'm glad i still able to secure this Dai-Z as this robot is both good and fun to play with.
Robot Mode
Dai-Z is Fans Project representation of Dai Atlas. The company did very well capturing the image of Dai Atlas and the paint application is pretty much spot on with overall blue and white paint with a touch of orange, red, and other colors. The plastic material is also top notch and up to Fans Project/Make Toys typical standard.
The design and aesthetic of Dai-Z is fresh and modern without going to far as we should be able to recognize that it is a Dai Atlas.
The robot comes with 2 weapons, a sword and a gun, and one big shield.
It does not have any problem handling both weapon. But when you attach the big shield to the left arms, it has a problem of holding up the shield due to the size of the shield. It is likely that you will not be able to stretch the arms all the way to the side or upward as the weight of the shield will immediately bring the arm down.
Vehicle Mode
Dai-Z is the combination of 3 (three) smaller vehicles and again, Fans Project does well capturing that combination process. the transformation process was not too complex and one should be able to transform/separate Dai-Z without problem. When i separate/transform Dai-Z i had a nostalgic feeling as this is the kind of toy that i loved back in the days.
The only problem with the transformation/separation process is when you want to separate the torso with the waist and leg parts. You have to use a bit of force to separate the two pieces and it seems that it is a common issue everywhere for this figure, even though Fans Project did mentioned that the hip joint issue with Dai-Z is far less severe than the Trianix Alpha (WB008). However, i do admit that after separating/transforming Dai-Z for several time the pressure level is becoming better and closer to tolerable pressure while still maintaining the strength of the joint.
Dai-Z comes with 3 small robot figures/drivers that can transform itself as the chest/shoulder piece for Dai-Z.
Lastly, all 3 smaller vehicle can also combine themselves to form one big vehicle. Indeed it is a nice and cool feature
Articulation
Overall, i like the articulation of Dai-Z, with the exception of the shoulder movement, which is a bit limited due to the design of the shoulder armor, but honestly, it is a small issue.
As a robot, Dai-Z's articulation is a good one, supported by two ratchet in the shoulder rotation movement and the hips movement.
Since Iron Man's pose now becoming a standard for extreme pose, i am happy to say that Dai-Z is also capable for pulling out that pose as well.
Final Thoughts
It is a great robot with lots of play features and accessories. I definitely recommend Dai-Z to all Robot lovers out there. I'm glad i still have the chance to get this robot as i am very happy with the purchase.
Most importantly, this robot is FUN. I had tons of fun playing with Dai-Z and the size of Dai-Z makes it convenient for me to play with it.
In this days, fun factor usually not as much focus as the other factors such as diecast metal parts, scale and precision, and size. I hate to admit that some toys does look cool and hefty (due to die cast) but most of the time, it will just stay in the display cabinet as it the play factor its just not there.
With Dai-Z i can just take him out of the cabinet and play with it for as long as i want and that is why i had this nostalgic feeling when were kids and playing with toys with so much fun and joy.
If you like what you see here, i definitely recommend Dai-Z and you may get your copy from Victory Toys.
Soon, the WB008 Trianix Alpha (based on Dia Battles) will be available as well and i know now that i will not miss the pre-order for that :).
