TFC Hades H-02 Thanatos Review

Let's continue with the 2nd robot of TFC Hades H-02 Thanatos, which is TFC interpretation of Killbison, with its bison-form type breastforce.
Part of the Hades (Liokaiser) combiner, H-02 Thanatos will form one of Hades's legs during combined mode.
I have reviewed the TFC H-01 Minos previously, and as promise, i will continue throughout 5 remaining robots.

Packaging
Each of the TFC Hades members come with a sturdy packaging box, and the robot is kept securely inside regular styrofoam. It also come with the standard instruction manual and a bio card. The instruction manual is still quite small for me and i ended up transforming the robot without the manual. We also received the breast force figure inside the box. In the case of Thanatos, the breast force is a bison form and it can be turn into a gun.

Presentation
No issue on the plastic material on this robot, and the build quality is also good. Thanatos is bulkier than Minos and i have no doubt that Thanatos will have a presence on any collector shelves.
The paint break up is good and the gun metal color mixed perfectly well with light brown and white color. As individual robot, i truly like the look, feel, and presence of Thanatos.

Transformation
TFC Thanatos transform into a Gepard anti-aircraft tank.
Just like Minos, clearance and tolerance issue is still present on this robot as well and i think it is worse in Thanatos than Minos. There just not enough clearance for some part to freely maneuver during transformation.
Transformation on the leg is similar to what we have on the Hasbro combiner wars series. I like the alt-mode look, and to me that is the good representation of Anti-Aircraft tank, complete with the radar.

As a combiner, Thanatos will form as on of the legs of Hades. Transformation to combined mode also heavily hindered by clearance issue. The combiner port is still using the old combiner port that TFC is known for (just like Minos)

The combiner feet is snuck-in inside the body of Thanatos. You need to be extra careful when trying to get the combiner feet out as i repeatedly mentioned regarding clearance issue. Please be careful, otherwise you have a risk of breaking the parts or stress mark.
In terms of looks and design, i feel like the combiner feet is so small, hence i'm afraid that the difference in proportion is very noticeable when you combined to Hades.
I applauded TFC for trying to make this figure a perfect-transformation robot, but the sacrifice for that is we have a small feet. I don't know if the sacrifice is warranted enough to give way for perfect-transformation.
In my view, i don't mind any part forming (not perfect-transfor) as long as it improves the overall look & proportion as well as the stability of the robot when combined together.

Articulation
For most part, Thanatos articulation was good as it capable for a decent range of poses. Just like Minos, there is no ratchet mechanism anywhere in the figure. Compared with Minos, the shoulder and arms articulation for Thanatos is very limited. This is due to the tank design that prevented more articulation on this robot. Hence, in terms of artculation, Minos is more articulate than Thanatos.

My Thoughts
Just like Minos, personally, i think Thanatos quality is still the same (just different character) like any previous TFC releases in terms of material, articulation, color, design, etc.
So far, both robot is still acceptable for my taste and preference. I like the looks of Minos and Thanatos together and i think, when its all said and done, the individual robots will looks great together.

For now, i'll still hold my view on the Hades combined mode as we still have 4 more members before Hades is completed

Cheers,
Epen

  1. All the figures you have reviewed from this set appear nice, look-wise. But it is clear that you did not really enjoy the experience of transforming and handling them. The 'play factor' is often more impressionable than the aesthetics of a toy or set.
Once again, thanks for your honesty.
